Published estimates differ because analysts use different market definitions, forecast windows, and assumptions about OEM-installed systems versus aftermarket units. Even so, the overall direction is clear: the market is expanding at a high-single-digit to low-double-digit annual rate.

Regional dash cam market trends

Europe is the largest market in recent studies. Mordor Intelligence says Europe held 34.6% of global revenue in 2025, and Grand View Research says Europe was the largest region in 2023 as well. Regulation and insurance use cases are major advantages for the region.

Asia is the fastest-growing region. Mordor Intelligence forecasts an 11.25% CAGR through 2031, while Grand View Research highlights stronger country-level momentum in Japan and India. Grand View Research expects India to grow at 16% through 2030, Japan at more than 13%, and China at more than 10%.

North America remains an important revenue pool. Grand View Research says North America accounted for 20.2% of global revenue in 2023, and the U.S. market alone is projected to grow at more than 7.3% annually through 2030.

What is driving demand?

Road safety and claim verification remain major demand drivers. The World Health Organization says road traffic crashes cause about 1.19 million deaths worldwide each year. In the U.S., NHTSA estimated 39,345 traffic fatalities in 2024. In Europe, the European Commission reported roughly 19,800 road deaths in 2024 in its preliminary release, and later published 19,940 deaths for 2024 in its October 2025 road safety update.

Regulation also matters. The European Commission says its updated vehicle safety rules started applying to all new motor vehicles sold in the EU on 7 July 2024. Separate EU legal text also states that event data recorders are mandatory for all new passenger cars and vans from 7 July 2024. That does not automatically mean every new vehicle includes a consumer-style dash cam, but it does strengthen the region’s culture of onboard crash data and video evidence.

Takeaways

  • The global dash cam market is already a multi-billion-dollar category and should keep expanding through 2030 and 2031.
  • Europe leads in current share, while Asia appears to offer the strongest growth runway.
  • Single-channel, basic, and personal-vehicle products still dominate the installed market.
  • Growth is shifting toward smart features, 4K recording, dual-channel systems, fleet use, and online sales.
  • Road safety pressure, insurance workflows, and regulatory changes are all helping demand.
